The problem was that Poshard did not cite his sources but represented them as his own. Basic writing classes teaches you the difference between original work and citing other sources. No one can be 100% original but if you refer to somebody else's work you cite them not pass it off as your own. There is no difference between "intentional" plagiarism and "its so-called unintentional counterpart similar to a court of law not distinguishing between intentional and non-intention murder, domestic abuse, and drunken driving. I agree 100% with this closing sentence.
